If Windows 7 is anything like XP/Vista, Microsoft leave a LOT of unnecessary services running by default. Here's a few tips to get the CPU load down.įirst, Google for to find web pages with good info on stopping/disabling as many background services as possible (you'll have to figure out which ones you don't need running). If you have too many programs/services running in the background, they eat up CPU time which causes Oblivion to suffer. I strongly suspect it's not RAM that Oblivion needs, but CPU time. I average about 20fps outside, up to 100fps indoors, and I have Qarl's Texture Pack III Redimized installed for almost photo-realistic hi-res textures! Without it, I used to get 25~30fps outside! I'm running Oblivion at 1360x768 with Distant Land, HDR and Grass enabled, and all Video Options maxed out except for Specular Distance (50%), Shadows (50%) and Window Reflections OFF. I have an old 32-bit PC with a single-core 2.1GHz CPU, 2Gb RAM and 512Mb Geforce 7900GS. With that spec, you should be able to max out ALL Video Options and run Oblivion butter smooth.
